New Pieces, News, Upcoming Events

Save the date, save a child! – join us for a fundraiser with Blessed Lotus.

Come down to the gallery and meet the faces behind Blessed Lotus, a charity that creates jobs for survivors of human trafficking. You will be able to admire the handy-work of these powerful women and meet De Anne Wingate, the driving force behind the charity.

100% of all profits will go towards building schools in the slums of India, to help future generations of girls escape trafficking and gain an education.

The Mission

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”

— Mahatma Gandhi

De Anne Wingate returned from India in March of 2012, with a desire to help children living in slums receive the best education possible.  She saw first hand that this was the only hope for these precious little ones.  Thus, the seed was planted for her nonprofit to put schools in slums around the world.

A portion of the tunics are handmade and embroidered by a group of women in need. They are paid by the piece. This small network is being taught English, how to read, write and basic finance skills.  Dignity is restored.  Her vision is for all the tunics to be made by these women.

We CAN make a difference!  One purchase, one child, one person, at a time…

Artist of the Month, New Artist, New Pieces

Featured Artist of the Month: Tony Griffin!

What’s your favorite piece thus far?

My favorite piece is usually whatever I am working on, because that’s where I am. I try not to judge them.

What is your favorite medium to use?

My favorite medium is what I use; oil paint and any drawing media.

What inspires you to create art?

I am inspired to paint by an insatiable desire to make something beautiful. That is all. For me, there is no other reason to paint.

If you could be a shoe of any kind, what would you be?

As far as shoes go, I like to slip into something fuzzy and comfortable.

News

Neil Gaiman gives a charming and moving commencement speech about the arts.

Neil Gaiman may be recognizable to you as the international best-selling author of children’s books Coraline and the Graveyard Book. Among his adult novels:  Stardust, Good Omens, American Gods and numerous collections of short stories, plus Sandman, his collection of illustrated novels. The Philadelphia University of the Arts invited him to address the class of 2012 at their graduation ceremony, and what he presented is easily the most inspirational and moving speech an artist or art-lover could hope to hear. In his speech, he addresses the hardships of trying to make yourself known, finding your own voice, and even the problems of success, which “are sometimes harder, because nobody warns you about them.” However, he also addresses the many reasons that it is worth it, and the many ways that doing what you love will always be the best decision you can make. We highly recommend taking the time and watching it for yourself.

Artist of the Month

Featured Artist of the Month: Windy O’Connor

What inspires you to paint?

“Usually art, other art. Great artists; my Love Letters are really inspired by Cy Twombley’s work, and that was right before he died. I was just so moved by every etch and sketch and mark that he made, it was just visceral. It made you want to touch it. And also, you know, just life itself. Life experiences. I get to sort of get all of that out on canvas.”

What are your favorite mediums to use?

“I love everything! I love apoxy, oil, acrylic, wax; that’s the fun of it, you just get to use everything. It’s like a big tool box.”

What kind of message do you want to convey to people with your art?

“Well what I found interesting about painting, which I didn’t realize at first but evolved, is that I am a very joyful and happy person. I noticed all my paintings kind of have that theme; and I think with any painter or artist, their paintings will have that energy, they just can’t help it. It’s really cool to see.”

“Sunday Kind of Love” 48×36 $2,300

“If enthusiasm alone was what it took to sell art, then allison sprock fine art would always have blank walls. Sprock represents American and Russian artists creating primarily figurative or landscape original paintings and photography.  As a private dealer and consultant for many years, Sprock’s eye and enthusiasm led her to gather a broad knowledge base and quite an assortment of artists whose work is intriguingly different.”
